You don't have to be on line to edit. :DYou cannot "switch off" McAfee VirusScan; you can only disable On-Access Scan. This will no longer interfere with any work you do, but it will still be active and use some memory (albeit less than when On-Access is enabled). This will no longer interfere with any work you do, but it will still be active and use some memory (albeit less than when On-Access is enabled)I used to have McAfee VirusScan and what you say is correct.Even when I used to disable it (by right clicking the McAfee taskbar icon and selecting 'disable'), I still had 3 or 4 McAfee processes running in Windows Task Manager and these couldn't be stopped by selecting 'End Process' as these processes were somehow protected as I can remember having a message on screen saying that 'WTM cannot end these processes due to insufficient privileges' so they were somehow protected probably to stop malware from turning them off if it ever got on to your PC?The only way that I could get round it was to go to MSconfig and untick the process boxes there, and then when the PC rebooted, the processes would not load up which resulted in an error message saying that 'Some of the McAfee services were disabled or missing.
