doug
Haven't got a problem as such - at least I don't think so. However, I was connected to BB using a router connected to my PC via the USB socket. I was having various problems connecting to some sites. Got fed up with this and went back to using my original PCI modem card. Asking around and it seemed that one would get a better connection using an Ethernet card. So I installed a Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter 100/10 Mbps. This is working extremely well. Now my question is this - When using the PCI modem card I would get the connection icon in the Sys Tray which showed my connection speed as about 2.5 Mbps but some days this dropped down to 1.5 Mbps and reports on the number of bits sent/received. Now the icon shows a rock steady 100.0 Mbps connection speed and reports on the number of packets sent/received. I'm sure I haven't. Anyone throw any light on this please. doug
That's interesting. Will look at that in mor detail after doing the days chores. Now my follow up question is "is there a gizmo that I can click on to give me the info that I used to get to indicate what my actual speed is? Like what I was used to see?" -pops-
The 100Mbps is the speed the Ethernet connection is capable of, not what it is actually working at.My main machine has two Ethernet connections - one like yours at 100Mbps and the other at 1Gbps. Now, if I could get downloads at that speed!!!!!!Another speed checker you could try is http://www.internetfrog.com/index.asp?source=google
AlanHo
andsomeI have found that to run your recommended Broadband Max speed test you must have javascript enabled and you must have version 7 of Flash Player loaded.I have tried it on a number of occasions - my worry being it always reports a download speed higher than the one I pay Virgin media for - whereas other testers used at the same time always report lower speeds. I have a suspicion that Broadband Max errs on the optimistic side based on a number of tests I have carried out at random times.

I also have an Ethernet connection.
mcb2001
http://www.speedtest.netTry all kinds of different locations, preferably near to you....This gives a good allround image of your connection to the surrounding world :-)Anyways, your ISP always gives you an approximation of what connection you could expect, not the EXACT connection speed.Another thing is that you pay to get f.x. 1mBit/s, that is a 1mBit/s to the ISP server, not promised to be a 1mBit/s from their server to the surrounding world, so thats why you can get both higher and lower speeds then promissed (they could offer you f.x. 1.2mBit/s to their server, in order for you to get closer to a 1mBit/s to the surrounding world).Hope this clearifies it a bit.
