doug
It's long over due for me to give you an update on my running. Essentially I am not doing the Great North Run this year. I had had a bad dose of pneumonia last November - I'm convinced I had picked something up on our flight back from our SKI holiday in Singapore. The upshot was that I picked up a dreadful cold which really got me down. Finished up at the Doctor's and was prescribed a course of antibiotics by the Nurse Practitioner. Well the weeks went past with only a very slight improvement. So back I went chest re-sounded prescribed some different antibiotics and was packed off for a chest x-ray. When I went back for the review was told that my chest was given the all-clear. So I asked why I was feeling so rotten, dizzy/light headed and sleepy. Was informed that I had had a serious dose of pneumonia. Not possible I said because I had had the anti pneumonia jab 2 years ago and that was guaranteed for 10 years. Rapid scrolling up and down the the PC screen and was then told that I was correct and what I had suffered was an a-typical pneumonia. I said that hearing that made me feel so much better but I still felt rotten and had had to stop my training could barely make 5 miles with great effort and abysmally slow. Was then told that it would take some time to get over and to take things easy. Well months have gone past and not only have I stopped all training but I've rung the GNR people asking if my allocated place in the run (had a guarantee for 3 years) could be transferred to next year, was told to get in touch once the run package arrives through the door. The latest on my health is that I am now much better having been back to the Doctor about my headaches and stuffed up feeling - have become a hypochondriac -and had a steroid based nasal spray type medicinal compound which has proved to be extremely efficaceous in every way. Head problems virtually gone and sleeping much better.Very sad at this state of affairs as I was really hoping to do the run in under 2 hours (13.1 miles 21km) in this my 70th year. So I haven't been drumming up any sponsorships nor made any comment here. I thought some of you might have been wondering what has happened. I'll do another posting regarding things regarding Hunters Moor that was but is now at the new hospital at Walkergate Park. The move took place in April this year. The Sponsorship for last year's run came to £4102. With the Hospital move everything went on hold 'till they settled. So I'll do a second posting regarding the new hospital shortly.P.S. Many thanks to everybody here for your support and encouragement.
