ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
We love oysters! Yesterday, a kindly friend from Northern Japan sent us a box with two dozen Japanese summer oysters. But summer oysters are much bigger than the normal-size kumamoto oysters. Where kumamoto oysters are just about thumb-sized, the summer oysters are as big as a fist! What to do with so many big oysters? We cannot possibly eat 24 of these monsters! So we called a friend who owns a restaurant, and asked him if he's interested (for himself and the staff, of course, not the customers). So we carried one dozen over to his restaurant, then returned home, opened a bottle of Veuve Clicquot, then started opening the oysters. Well, let me just tell you that opening a dozen champagne bottles is very much easier than opening a single oyster! But with a proper oyster knife and 30 minutes of hard work we finally succeeded. They were absolutely delicious! And believe me, we were rather full after just half a dozen oysters each!
artist
Did you eat them raw or cooked. Aren't you supposed to swallow them whole? How can you tell if they taste good? I just don't fancy them.

ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
I can't stand cooked oysters! Al the delicious flavors are gone with cooking. And of course you (I) don't swallow them whole. I love them with a few drops of fresh lemon juice, sometimes with a tiny bit of grated horseradish.I know, these days even the Japanese government recommends to cook oysters; last winter many oysters were found to carry a virus. But I think the summer oysters, from the cool waters of Akita, should be OK. If I had to cook my oysters I would stop eating them.
andsome
There is NO way that I could consider eating any kind of flesh or fish raw. I have had cooked oysters, and found them to be delicious. But RAW, NO THANKS. :D I am not all that keen on sparkling wine either. I will drink it to be sociable, but for my personal taste you just cannot beat a decent STILL wine. :D
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
I agree with you on the sparkling vs. still wine issue. However, there are two occasions that simply call for champagne: caviar, and fresh oysters B) Some people also like it on birthdays, weddings, and New Year. For me, I also rather have a good still wine such as a Meursault or Montrachet.P.S. there is a third occasion that also calls for champagne, although one glass is enough: when your favorite airline gives you a complimentary upgrade to first class. It only happened twice to me in my lifetime, but I got my flûte de champagne on both occasions :)
andsome
Caviar is something that I have tried, and found the taste to be awful. It was just how I would imaging salt flavoured frog spawn as tasting. YUCK. Regarding the oysters, just the thought of putting something ALIVE in my mouth absolutely revolts me. Yuck 1,000,000 times over.
