Ali Linux-Lover
Okay so the best solution it's to wait for the Ubuntu Dell laptop to arrive to europe (since know are only available in US) , the company said these Laptop will be available in Europe soon with a nice price and wonderful Hardwares.there are a lot of other stuff wish came with windows less, like sager, lenovo, Dell.So again, i want to know if i buy a laptop with Windows and i don't accept the license what i have to do, if there is no choice then why they ask you if you accept the licence . This is not fair at all Regards,
Alan2273
You have to accept the license agreement to be able to use it.Then WGA can check its validity every time you go on line.I have not used Vista but from what I have read if you do not agree to the EULA, it restricts the parts of the OS that you can use, and after a certain time it stops you using it completely. If you buy it with software pre loaded, then it is up to you whether or not you use that software, you can hardly expect to get your money back. If you buy a five seater car and don't use the back seats, you don't get a discount. :D
Scarecrow Man
If you do not accept the license, you must uninstall the software. Most of the license agreements include the following line in them somewhere:By using the software, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the software. Instead, return it to the retailer for a refund or credit. They ask you to accept the license for many reasons. One reason for example:You cannot reverse engineer Windows.Have a look here for license agreements for all Microsoft products..http://www.microsoft.com/about/legal/useterms/
Ali Linux-Lover
It seems fair enough to me. If you buy a five seater car and don't use the back seats, you don't get a discount. :DNo it's not fair at all, we should have the option to buy laptops without any OS installed , for the seats story , OS it's not the same case ,since you can do nothing in your computer without , so i would like to say it's the engine. So i have to pay for the engine then trow it away and then get a new one . in any case, i went to a Computer Shop in Geneva today, i found that ACER can refund me for the price of windows, and they gave me the paper to fill and send it to the repair team with the Laptop, and then they will refund me :D okay this is a solution but i'm going to have a Dell Ubuntu one.For me the idea is only that i don't want at all to pay for a OS that doesn't provide me any useful functionalities .For the License story , i don't care at all about it, i only want a PC , you should read the treaty between the Laptop providers and microsoft to see what i mean exactly in this topic ! and this is contradictory with the EU rules , since always you have to have the choice, but again probably this is a new style of the US Democracy Thanks for all the replies , and i hope this situation will change soon. -pops-
No it's not fair at all, we should have the option to buy laptops without any OS installedComputer manufacturers are in business to make money. The demand for machines with no O/S would be very low ergo not profitable for them. There may be one or two makers who would do this and perhaps a few more who might do it as a special favour but, as a generality, I can quite see their reasons for taking that stance. My interests are in desktop machines and I always build my own so that I can put into them exactly what I want - both hardware and software because no manufacturers will do this to the specification I seek. I appreciate this is not practical with laptops and perhaps it's a reason why laptops don't interest me.

I don't think this is the main reason ,because they can sell their Hardware without having to pay for windows ! so who wants to make money is microsoft -
Scarecrow Man
Off topic, but I recently helped my aunt purchase a new laptop. First I tried to get them to just give me the box, and the cables. I do not any software on it.Nope. Not going to happen. Then I was informed it came pre-loaded with Vista, well I dont want Vista. I want XP.Nope. Not going to happen. Then I asked if I could take the unit home and load it myself.Nope. Not going to happen. Then I asked since they are loading everything, do I at least get a copy of the software and the original disc.Nope. I get a "restore disc". :censored: :censored: :censored:Needless to say, I will never buy anything from this company again. I wont mention the company name, but they are a very large chain here in Canada. We call it one of the "Big Box" stores.

Ali Linux-Lover
Still not get the answer of my question ! Why when you turn a laptop on for the first time, a pop up panel ask you to accept the license , if you have to do before buying the laptop and you have no other choice ? this is stupid.A friend of me how's living in US he'll bring a Dell Ubuntu Laptop to France, so i feel very good know to escape buying 100 euro solitaire game B) .the GPL (any version ) said that the software came with absolutely no warranty and open source and modify/redistribute is legal, but in fact they are completely stable, my current Acer aspire 3620 never never freeze with my Slackware 11.in other hand windows has warranty ,but you fell scared when you surf the web, and the drive cleaner pop up from the internet explorer to tell you that you have 1 million virus in your computer ! even if the hard disk is less than 1 GB, and from time to time the Blue screen of Death appear ,restart and pray is the best way. With Linux you get all the compilers that you like ,openoffice , games, emulators and ,.............. (FOR 0$)with windows yes you get freecell (nice to have a free in it's name) and the 16MB solitaire for (guess the price ,i never pay for it).I'm not going to discuss windows vs linux (because for me there is no comparison) , but this is a example why i don't want to use microsoft software any more, because since 2 years a was still using windows from time to time , and i had very bad experience with this silent OS.The nice thing is the Games produced for Windows ,but fortunately there is a Solution using wine (for free) or cedega ,or crossover.as i read windows vista know has a administrator password, good step, and good for people they think Linux is complicated to understand why.But again , this is related to the American style ( you don't have to think, you have to pay)Regards. Ali Linux-Lover
Okay at the end i'm thinking to switch back to windows because i'm missing the popup errors messages, and also the trojans and the viruses running in my drive.Difference between windows & virus : Virus rarely fail.Best Regards
-pops-
This thread and most, if not all, of your responses on this forum in the short time you have been here is a totally pointless exercise in attacking Windows. We all know that Windows is far from perfect but this barrage of insults does nothing to progress the cause of improving it.
