Madison
Hi,I just was wondering what Windows 8.5 is, if it exists, etc.I'm getting a replacement computer, from insurance, it's a Dell XPS something and it has windows 8.5 on it, so the guy said. He said it is new also. I had a choice between two, one had Vista Business or something on it, I am using Vista atm, so I am familiar with that, but the XPS had Windows 8.5 on it. Even he didn't know what it was. But we decided upon that one as the specs for the computer were better.I've tried searching but I haven't been able to find any real information, just a few downloads for it, so I was wondering what is it, what do people think of it and can I upgrade it to XP or Vista (if it isn't that already) or will I have to reinstall everything for it to be decent? Anyway, Thanks!-Madison.
andsome
I did a Google search and there were quite a few sites with references. Unfortunately many of these sites were showing a Site Advisor red warning.SEE HERE
Boris
andsome,Most of those links are version 8.5 of whatever the application it is (for Windows) - not "Windows 8.5"e.g. Stuffit 8.5 (for Windows) - this is an old version of the normally Mac compression tool :)
Scarecrow Man
I do not think there is such a thing. Are you sure it was Windows 8.5 and not, for example, DirectX 8.5http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Microsoft_Windows
Madison
I do not think there is such a thing. Are you sure it was Windows 8.5 and not, for example, DirectX 8.5http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Microsoft_WindowsHi,Yeah, like he said "Windows 8.5" and I said what is that? And he said he didn't know and I asked if it had vista on it and he said he wasn't sure, but my mom was talking to him, after that and she's, well, a mom, so she really wasn't paying much attention, but I'm sure it would have to have vista on it... it's like a got a good set up, like it's faster than the new laptop I just got.So I really have no clue what he was talking about! I'm sure it would have Vista on it. I just was worried that Windows 8.5 would be some bizarre kind of mobile windows or something! So thanks for your help! Madison
I did a Google search and there were quite a few sites with references. Unfortunately many of these sites were showing a Site Advisor red warning.SEE HEREThanks for that! I have no idea what he was talking about! He at first was going to give me some Latitude Dell, but then upgraded it to this super good XPS, which I was totally happy about, but confused by coz it was a replacement for a c400! And then he said Windows 8.5 and I was like thinking it would be a downside to it, so I did a search and when I couldn't find a thing, I knew it must have been non-existant or just not good, so thank you for your help! Alan2273
The salesman probably meant Microsoft Works suite ( the cut down office suite) as that is at version 8.5.

I never thought of that! I think my new laptop came with that too, so that would make sense.
