-pops- Posted July 25, 2007 Report Share Posted July 25, 2007 This seems like a symptom of a failing power supply unit.At startup a computer requires at lot of power to get everything going (much like a jet aircraft) but after take-off the power requirement goes right down. I've known several instances where a power unit is at the limit of its output at startup and for reasons I've not adequately had explained to me, these units do "wear out" and so after a time are unable to supply just that bit of extra "oomph" necessary to get going. You will want to make sure all internal components are properly connected.If you are able to boot the computer into safe mode, and check the event log this may give you an idea as to what is happening right before the PC shuts down. eddacker Posted July 29, 2007 Report Share Posted July 29, 2007 A virus would do that, as well as the power supply and the main board. To test the PSU disconnect something like the floppy, CD or a second HDD. To test the virus boot from a CD or floppy with HDD disabled. If it is a bios problem or chipset on the Main Board the testing gets a bit more complicated.Good Luck, and Let me know what you find. Coreper Posted August 2, 2007 Report Share Posted August 2, 2007 i recently had something like that tooit didnt end well for me: because it restarted so much [due to bluescreens which cause auto restarts] while being in full processes, more and more errors occured and my hd got messed upafter a long while i was able to reboot in safe mode, so i copied as much as possible data to my external hd as backupthen i reinstalled windows, and here i am: on a fine and clean computer which runs GREAT! :Di recommend in your case to try rebooting in safe mode with command line/promptthen use the chkdsk command [for help about chkdsk, use chkdsk /?]set it to restore all errors [if found]then try restarting and have a look if your pc works...
