Is this worth buying for use by a teenage grandson - for studies and games.

Apart from the graphics card, the processor is a good one, plenty of ram and hard drive space.

and a three year warranty, so IMO it is worth the money.

This is only a base unit so it will need monitor, speakers, keyboard & mouse.

Graphics card looks abit weedy, and to be honest id never heard of the 8400GS before ,8500/8600/8800 yes but not that one. Most of the rest of the spec isnt to bad considering the price and you could easily upgrade the graphics card to a newer one

Then you'd need to upgrade the PSU - these Medions are designed to be used "out of the box" - not upgraded to any significant effect.

oh yes if your upgrading the graphics card, you will need a new PSU the PSU supplied will be crap. if you do get a psu make sure its PCI-E ready. stay away from cheap PSU's aswell get a good brand like OCZ, Antec,Corsair,Seasonic,Tagan........maybe hiper at a push.
