Mike567 Posted August 7, 2007 Report Share Posted August 7, 2007 So I think I've been infected by a virus and what i can make of it its in the explorer.exe, so here's the symptoms:no taskbar, no start menu but I have the desktop with right click etc, all my connections are no longer in existence I cannot connect my usb drives.I can't copy and paste.I'm really stuck, I tried to install AVG using a CD didnt have any of it I also tried to install spybot s&d but apparently you have to update before you can use it and i dont have a connection.Please help don't have a clue what to do with this problem Thanks. Boris Posted August 7, 2007 Report Share Posted August 7, 2007 Why didn't you run the Avast you installed to try and kill it off ?If you can't, you could try and do a Repair Install of XP ?See this link for instructions :-http://www.simplyguides.net/guides/repair_...lation_xp.shtmlThis repair will allow you you to keep your current documents and applications intact but will reinstall Windows XP. This is not the same as a format and reinstall of Windows XP and is a lot less time consuming.Hopefully this should get your missing functionality back ?
