deuces wild
I have tried to switch my external HD from FAT32 to NTFS using the dos command of "convert D: /fs:ntfs" (less quotes), with "D" being the FAT32 drive. The process seemed to complete without a problem. I rebooted then checked the D drive properties and see it is still in the FAT32. So, I repeated the process with the same results.Any ideas on what I am doing wrong? -pops-
How are you getting to the command prompt? To convert a volume to NTFS from the command prompt 1. Open Command Prompt: Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt. 2. In the command prompt window, type: convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs For example, typing convert D: /fs:ntfs would format drive D: with the ntfs format. You can convert FAT or FAT32 volumes to NTFS with this command. From http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb456984.aspx

deuces wild
"The file may be damaged or there may be insufficient disk space. The conversion failed."So I deleted a major chunk of files.121 gb now available.I repeat the process. Same results.Maybe I need to reformat. Scarecrow Man
Could not hurt to do a format. That way you can format as NTFS and you wont have to worry about it :)
Chris
Run check disk with both options checked on the drive.
deuces wild
Too late. I have just finished formatting the drive to NTFS and am backing up my main drive to it. Thanks anyway!
