Stubborn HDD

Hi everyone, another newbie here.

I've been searching around the forum, but haven't really found a solution to my problem. Hopefully you guys and gals can help me out.

I recently built a new computer, which is up and running with no problems. I would like to transfer a hard drive from my old computer to the new one, but I can't get the new computer to recognize it. The drive is still working (it works perfectly in the old pc) but the new computer won't recognize it at all. It won't even show up in BIOS.

I've checked the cable connections and everything is good, so I know that's not the problem. Are there some drivers I need to download and install to get the drive working? maybe a BIOS update? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the disk has about 80 gigs of games, photos, and other programs.

The drive doesn't show up in anything. I can't see it in BIOS or in disk management. It's like the drive isn't even plugged in, but I'm positive that it is. I've checked the connections a dozen times now.

Thank you all for helping so far, I really appreciate it.

So, it's an IDE drive connected to the middle connector of the 80 wire IDE cable (grey colour), the blue connector is plugged into the motherboard and the Master drive connected by the black plug, yes? Despite what some people think, it does matter which way round an IDE cable is connected and even more so, an 80 wire (EIDE) version.

Also you are certain the jumpers are definitely correctly set. It can sometimes be confusing when the label on a drive is the wrong way round to where to need you use it i.e. you read it with the parts you're reading about facing away from you so it is easy to become confused - I know, I've done it.

Then there is just the possibility of a faulty cable - which is about the only thing left that it could be if everything else proves to be OK.

I have just had a look at your motherboard, and it only has one IDE connector on the motherboard.

How very unusual!

Looks like you're expected to use SATA hard drives with the IDE reserved for other things (optical drives).

Does explain to a large extent the reason of the "non-see".

Well, the problem has been solved! I'm not 100% sure what I did to get it working, but it's up and running wonderfully.

I have just had a look at your motherboard, and it only has one IDE connector on the motherboard.

Are you disconnecting a CD or DVD drive to hook up your other hard drive.

Yes, I had been working on this without the CD drive in the pc. It was quite an odd situation. I bought the pc as a barebone kit from tigerdirect, who I've never had anything but exceptional service from. when I put the thing together I realized that the motherboard only had one IDE connector and four SATA connectors, which is really odd since the kit comes with an IDE drive.

I'll be looking to get an adapter now so I can put the disk drives through through the SATA connectors, unless there's a simpler way to go about it.

Thank you all for posting so quickly, I really appreciate all the help
