Ultimate Posted September 21, 2007 Report Share Posted September 21, 2007 Recently my pc (running xp pro) failed to start up so i took out the harddrive to get the data off it. (I was going to re-format it after). When i connected it to a external harddrive enclosure and plugged it into my laptop (running windows vista ultimate) it worked. Then came the problems. While i was browsing through the folders i came to a bunch of folders ( located in the root of the user - ex. Documents and settings > Ultimate > _______ ) that were non accessible. The message that appears is " you don't currently have permissions to access this folder." Then underneath it says "click continue to get access to this folder". So i clicked continue... ...and it said "you have been denied permissions to access this folder" then it says go to the security tab. I went there and gave my laptop full permissions but it still doesn't let me open or copy files. Is there anyway to overwrite the permissions on the disk? Or is there any program that will do this?I have searched around and i can't seem to find anything.. :(Can anyone help me with this problem?? I really need to get the files off. trackrat Posted September 21, 2007 Report Share Posted September 21, 2007 Did you get the drives to show using Knoppix?.Also did you right click on said drive and select properties to make sure you could copy from it ( make sure the tick is taken out of the read box.then close drive down and open it again in the explorer window and you should then be able to copy from it.Got to go now, best of luck.
