Windows Versions' Performance Differences

is there a difference between the overall system performance of the windows vista versions?

i ask because i am thinking of buying Windows Vista Business, but recently someone told me that Vista Business might not be optimal for playing games and stuff

so actually i also want to ask this: Is Windows Vista Business a good Windows Vista version, or should i buy Ultimate?

Note: I am going to use it for using MS Office, some heavier programs [such as video encoders and (maybe) 3D programs] and for gaming.

I bought an OEM version of Vista Ultimate - to be able to use all the features of Vista. The price difference over other versions was not all that great.

I don't know whether the business version has the Gadget sidebar or can use ready boost - but they are features I could no longer do without.

I have a wide sceen monitor and have set the sidebar to be always visible - which means my chosen gadgets are always on view and accessible. Hence I can see at a glance what my CPU is doing, the weather forecast for my town for the next 3 days, a Clock/Alarm/Stopwatch, The BBC main radio channels can be switched on with one mouse click, a unit and currency converter and finally some buttons to log off windows or close down the computer with one click. There are hundreds of gadgets now available for downloading - most being freeware.

I have a card USB reader attached and have inserted a spare 2 GB SD card which is used by Vista Ready-Boost to significantly speed up the computer. This is most noticeable when I have several programs running at the same time.

I had a new computer built specialy to use Vista - and notice a big difference in performance - especially when I use my old XP machine which we retained as a spare or for when we both need to access a computer at the same time.

that isnt an answer to what i asked, really:

i asked if it was smart to purchase Vista Business, considering i heard that different windows versions cause different system performance

it seems good to me...:

i do not want the Media Center

and i dont use the windows dvd maker, movie maker or photo slideshows...

but could you tell me something about the performance differences they create for playing games and such?

I would imagine that if you want performance, Home Basic has the least features but also the least bloated. Ultimate comes with all the bells and whistles but this will cause a slight performance hit.

I have not used it myself, but as with all versions of Windows, you can remove parts of the OS that you do not need, like Windows Media Player, Movie Maker, etc. using the Add/Remove Windows Components.

yeah, but i heard that windows vista business is build more for office utilities, and not for games

so maybe games would run less good on it...?

By the time they get the drivers etc sorted on Vista the new OS will be out ! I read somewhere that the new OS is due out in 2010 - that's only 2 and a bit years away ! XP ran for longer ! I think Linux is calling me - FREE and open and ongoing ! And less attacks because of it ! ;)

why not to take Linux: cant run a lot of programs and games
