AlanHo
I have an HP Scanjet 3010 connected to my Vista computer which works fine - except for excessive warm-up time. The scan speed is quite quick - takes only about 15 seconds to scan an A4 image - but it takes ages to warm up.When I place an original under the lid and press the scan button - it sits there for 3.5 minutes with the occasional buzz and twitch - before it does the preview scan. I then press the "accept" button and it sits there for about a minute before taking the actual 15 second scan.If I then put another original under the lid immediately, it sits there for only a few seconds before setting off for the preview scan - but still takes about 30 seconds after accepting the preview before taking the final scan. If I wait for more than a minute or so between originals - I am back to the 3 minute warm-up all over again. Is this normal ?. My previous HP scanner only took about a minute to warm up (but was slower to do the actual scan of the document).
catgate
Is it new? I had an Epson that developed a long warm up time when I went on to Linux. I was advised that it was the light source that was "loosing its lux". So I bought another scanner and all was fine. When I put the Epson back on to 98SE sure enough it was just as slow as it was on Linux.May be loosing of the lux is not as gradual as in the ladies!! -pops-
I have an HP7310 "All in one" - mainly for its FAX facility but I use it as a photocopier and scanner as well. It takes an age to warm up but, once it's up and running, it's OK for about an hour - the length of time the lamp remains on.According to my son, it takes time to warm up because of the lamp taking time in stabilising its colour temperature (warming up) so that you get correct colour rendition on your scan. Note: lamp stabilising is not required in scanners with LED light sources.
AlanHo
It's four months old and has always been the same since new. I ignored the problem initially because I didn't use it very often - but I have had a batch of things to scan this week and it has driven me nuts waiting for it to warm up all the time. -pops-
On my HP (as above) it is possible to adjust the length of time that the lamp stays on for after initial use. Possibly there is the same on yours.
AlanHo
pops - your genius strikes again. After some fiddling around in the menu structure I found a tick box to "Extend Lamp Timeout"The result is after not using the scanner for 30 minutes (virtually a cold start) the warm up time has been drastically reduced. It is now seconds rather than minutes. Thanks a lot.
