blueeyes
Respected Admin,My System Specification: My PC was working fine with:Processor.......... 2.4ghzM/B.................. D845GBVRam................. Slot 0 (256mb) + Slot 1 (128mb)I purchased this computer in about March 2003. Problem:Today I changed Slot 0 RAM with the 512mb RAM. After pluging that RAM into my system my system didn't display again.I unplug HARD DRIVES, DVDs, FLOPPY DRIVE, 512mb RAM. Nothing happens. I again plug the RAMs just as before. All three RAMs works fine on a branded Compaq PC. I unplug the HDD LED, RESET SW, POWER SW, POWER LED and amazinginly the system powered on automatically but didn't get display. POWER SW is must to be plug in mother board to in a computer but it power on automatically without POWER SW.POWER SW is connected to the ON and OFF button to the casing.........The computer giving 2 error beeps at once after 15 sec.I don't know the VGA has gone or the BIOS..... Please help me out. After pluging or unpluging anything I must disconnect the switches. Thanks in advance.
catgate
From my limited knowledge I can tell you that it is usually necessary to have the RAM blocks matched. They seem to have to be put in either singly or in matched pairs, In some instances, depending on mother board and blocks, they even have to go into specific slots. I think just heaving them in, in an ad hoc manner is likely to lead to the problem you are experiencing.http://www.hardwarecentral.com/hardwarecen...12093_3580456_1http://computermemoryupgrade.mysuperpc.com/There are lots more on Google
blueeyes
My dear friend catgate, thanks for your time, I know there are somethings that never wanted to be messed up. I just messed up with the one and now I am just asking what is the problem, I am not asking how to. What happened to my PC. I am sorry I know about the matched ram pair I just did a experiment and that gives no video or display....................................Anyone else please..................................................From my limited knowledge I can tell you that it is usually necessary to have the RAM blocks matched. trackrat
If I understand what you are saying without the Power or Reset switch connected, your computer is booting up.Please confirm I have this right. If so have you checked the pins that you connect the power switch to are not bent to each other and shorting out.It seems that motherboard has integrated graphics which use system RAM, so if your ram is not being recognised you will get no display on your monitor.Just Googled your motherboard, it has an AMI BIOS and two short beeps mean a post failure due to not being able to address the first 64kb's of ram.It also says that only Intel recommended RAM should be used and it should be 184 pin DDR 200 or 266. blueeyes
Respected Sir,I can understand what you said. You must have right but I must say you have to see that D845GBV has Integrated Graphics, Especially you are right, my computer is booting up with no display/video without Power or Reset switch connected to the mother board. I have checked there are not a single short out in the Power PINS on the mother boards, Well about the RAMs, I again unplug the 512mb RAM and plug the Rams as before but nothing happens, and I hope HP is a Intel recommended RAM.Thank you for your concern/time.If I understand what you are saying without the Power or Reset switch connected, your computer is booting up.Please confirm I have this right. If so have you checked the pins that you connect the power switch to are not bent to each other and shorting out.It seems that motherboard has integrated graphics which use system RAM, so if your ram is not being recognised you will get no display on your monitor.Just Googled your motherboard, it has an AMI BIOS and two short beeps mean a post failure due to not being able to address the first 64kb's of ram.It also says that only Intel recommended RAM should be used and it should be 184 pin DDR 200 or 266. trackrat
On reading your reply, I am totally baffled.Unless there is a fault with your motherboard, there is no way it would power on without the Power SW connected, (only by shorting out those pins with a terminal screwdriver). If your monitor was the problem it would not stop you getting a single beep from a sucessful POST, so that can be discounted. As you said in an earlier post you were getting two beeps and that indicates a RAM problem. The only conclusion that I can make is that your motherboard is faulty.Sorry I could not be of any more help than that. Boris
Irrespective of any PowerSwitch anomalies, according to Intel your Intel® Desktop Board D845GBV has :-support for single-sided or double-sided DIMMs (DDR 200 and DDR 266)By any chance is this new 512MB stick either DDR333 or DDR400 rather than DDR266 ? blueeyes
Respected Sir,First of all thank you very much for your concern/time. I can understand that shorting out POWER SW PINs can only switch ON PC but I told you I am having a weird problem that I can't understand. About my monitor it's working fine with another PC so there is no monitor problem.Again if there is a RAM problem then why isn't 256mb (slot 0) + 128mb (slot 1) working as before and either in by single but the every RAM is working fine on another Compaq PC.Again thank you very much for your time. No need to be sorry it's just maybe I can't explain..........On reading your reply, I am totally baffled.Unless there is a fault with your motherboard, there is no way it would power on without the Power SW connected, (only by shorting out those pins with a terminal screwdriver). If your monitor was the problem it would not stop you getting a single beep from a sucessful POST, so that can be discounted. As you said in an earlier post you were getting two beeps and that indicates a RAM problem. The only conclusion that I can make is that your motherboard is faulty.Sorry I could not be of any more help than that. blueeyes
Respected Boris,Ram spec:128mb 266mhz single side256mb 266mhz single side512mb 266mhz DOUBLE SIDEDCould this be a problem? I think it's the BIOS problem because in bios you can set a setting on power lose: ON or OFF or Last State. Maybe this is a problem why PC ON and maybe due to 512mb RAM + 128mb RAM just burn the BIOS or VGA. I think these of two could be happen. I hope for good but preparing for worst.Irrespective of any PowerSwitch anomalies, according to Intel your Intel® Desktop Board D845GBV has :-support for single-sided or double-sided DIMMs (DDR 200 and DDR 266)By any chance is this new 512MB stick either DDR333 or DDR400 rather than DDR266 ? Alan2273
Your motherboard will take up to 2GB's of ram, so having different size sticks of ram will not affect the BIOS or the VGA .The fact that it powers up without a switch connection made on the motherboard and the fact that that all the sticks of ram work in another motherboard, point to the fact that your motherboard is shafted. Also from the fact that you have disconnected the hard drive and other peripherals which takes it back to the basics and still cannot get it to post, this narrows it down to the motherboard, PSU or the processor,Just a thought, have you tried resetting the BIOS . blueeyes
Respected Alan,You are the first man who's saying "having difrent size sticks of ram will not effect the BIOS or the VGA", What do you mean by shafted? Tell me a bran new mother board or any mother board needs a hard drive or other peripherals to show display? I think you're wrong........ I have reset the Bios by it's jumper but nothing happens actually I did it before posting my thread on this website. Thank you for your concern/time.Let me introduce myself to you....... I am a Computer Hardware Engineer. I started my carrier in 1998 and I own a shop in HAFEEZ CENTER. I also work in two Ineternet Cafe. Actually here I would say thank you all I will take my PC to the market. I just thought you people know what happened when I change a ram of 256mb 266mhz on slot 0 with 512mb 266mhz. I will better take my PC to another Engineer. Sometimes it happens the thing you usually do is out of your mind so you need someone else to watch it. I don't know why but it just happend. Thanks for your time and your worthy space. I will stay intouch as I will know the problem.Your motherboard will take up to 2GB's of ram, so having different size sticks of ram will not affect the BIOS or the VGA .The fact that it powers up without a switch connection made on the motherboard and the fact that that all the sticks of ram work in another motherboard, point to the fact that your motherboard is shafted. Also from the fact that you have disconnected the hard drive and other peripherals which takes it back to the basics and still cannot get it to post, this narrows it down to the motherboard, PSU or the processor,Just a thought, have you tried resetting the BIOS . Alan2273
The best of luck in diagnosing your problem. What I actually said was by disconnecting your hard drive and other peripherals you were going back to the basics that you need to achieve a post which was still not sucessful.Shafted means the motherboard will not work because of a fault. blueeyes
We haven't any proper lab in here in our country, who can really diagnose the problem or can fix it. Very limited person/repairman (not even certified) told me "your mother board is totally dead" and can't be fixed. That's it. I am very much upset what happened to my mother board. Now a damn thing! I can't find a new mother board with mMPGA processor slots, new boards are legless. I buyed a Compaq Evo 510 mother board in used. I am not much satisfied as I was with my D845GBV. Could anyone tell me please what VGA card it has and sound card. I got the drivers with much trouble but can't find specifications. Any help will be greatfull. Thank you all.
