BT Voyager 220V

I have just been given a BT Voyager 220V router modem without its power source. The power source on my BT voyager 205 claims to be 14v~. I do not really want to screw it up so I would like to know the correct supply.

I have searched the net obviously in the wrong places, looking for the this info. Does anyone know the answer, please? A local opinion was 12v but ac/dc was not known.

It is 12v x 1.5a, in the BT specification page.

Yes that ties up with local opinion.... but ac or dc?. You have obviously found a BT specifications page that I did not find. I found a few, but non seemed to have your finding on them.

I took the lid off yesterday to look for a clue, but these days, with the miniaturisation of diodes etc. it would seem possible to build a full wave bridge rectifier into the top of a pin head!

The input will be AC, the output will be DC.

I missed that one somehow. However it does seem odd that it is not thought important to indicate ac or dc. I know dc is the norm for most electronics, but for some reason my Voyager 205 power pack is clearly labelled as

Input 230V~ 50Hz 140Ma Output 14v~1A

My understanding of ~ was that it indicated ac.

14vac is also door bell power. I knew BT kept one foot in the past.. maybe they knew a supplier that had some adapters and ...

I reached up in the loft and pulled down my old voyager and the psu does show 14V~1A and a sticker on the underside states:

for voyager 10V. So it would make sense. 14vac cleaned up to 10vdc? And being a dsl modem of early design there may be some use for that other half wave?

As you know sticking a 12vdc psu into a rectified circuit of comparable size will do no harm.

I got one of those yesterday!! :unsure:

Probably because we agreed not to change from BT, if they only charged use £14.99 (inc. vat.) for our broadband service.

It became a new 12 month contract.

Certainly did not expect a Modem/Router. Don't even need one!! :D

I have found out that they seem to be much easier to set up than an ordinary winmodem or a USB modem. I am also reliably informed that the hole in the back, for viri and other undesirables to creep in through, is much smaller than these too.
