The shopping circus.

When I was young you used to have to go to the circus to see the fat lady and the tattooed man. Nowadays you can see them in any shopping centre.

Do you remember when there were real circuses such as Billy Smart's with his Liberty Horses and the elephant troop or Bertram Mills and his trained Bengal Tigers or Robert Chipperfield's performing sea lions who played musical hooters. Now the lilly livered PC, animal welfare, 'uman rights, data protection brigade have had their way - animal circuses are a thing of the past and we are left with travelling clowns, acrobats and dancing magicians. There may be an opening for the fat lady and tattooed man after all?

I recently took my grandson to see the American Travelling Circus - it was all glitz and glamour with the blokes wearing their underpants outside their trousers trying to look like superman or spiderman, a lady fire-eating, a magician with the most obvious illusions, a trapeze artist way past his sell by date (but his female assistant provided some very nice eye candy) and the most awful clowns. The only thing I found truly pleasurable was the popcorn I kept pinching from my grandson's bag whilst he was enthralled by spiderman's antics.

So it's back to the shopping centre for me - to see the parade of fat people and their tattooes - it's free there.

It was either their second eleven or the "export" version on its way to win hearts and minds.

Just out of interest, did the ringmaster have a little plait at the back of his head.

You are welcome to the popcorn. Tasteless yuck.
