Scarthy © ® ™
Bug in Nero 6 Could Wipe Your Hard Drive Under the use of a special tool in Nero 6 (called Nero Recode) a bug could lead to the wipe-out of your hard drive in the worst case. Nero Recode is intended to compress DVD movies to the size of a standard commercial DVD recordable disc. A recent discovered bug could now quickly lead to a wipe-out of the hard disk with complete data loss within seconds. Once started, the progress is unstoppable. The bug appears in the usage and handling process with temp and destination folders, which the tools uses to temporarily save the movie files during compressing process and to save the complete movie as last step. Nero Recode first saves the movie locally to forward it later to Nero 6 for burning. If you choose a local folder, which already contains data, the tool asks you to delete them before proceeding. This is the point, where the bug comes into play.Nero Recode gives the user the chance to configure the default destination folder to whatever he wants, also to root directories like C:\, where Windows might be saved on. If a user chooses the option to compress the video files into the root directory, Nero Recode will notice that there are already files in. The tool will prompt for removing the files. Every user who now thoughtlessly chooses the option Yes, is going to get a big surprise. This bug seems to be in the Nero 6 Update Package 2..."Nero Recode Beta v09.0"View>>>Nero Homepage<<<News Source - PC-Welt.de Found - Here;)
