Dencandy Posted November 19, 2007 Report Share Posted November 19, 2007 Something strange has happened to my User Accounts screen since I (accidentally) changed an Administrator Account to a Guest Account and then had to change it back again. Some small icons on the User Accounts screen have disappeared & been replaced by little red crosses. These are the icons alongside the items: User accounts, User Account Types, & Switching Users. Everything functions as it should, though. It happens in both Category & Classic View. No other screens or dialog boxes seem to be affected.Anyone got any suggestions about putting this right? I help a publisher produce books on Buddhism in English, teach meditation & yoga and give some free English classes to local people. I've been doing it for three years now & find it very fulfilling & it brings me great joy. It's also a very beautiful part of Sri Lanka in the central hill region near Kandy.So I stay mainly at meditation centres & have a laptop & CDMA phone which I can take with me to help me keep in touch. Even what I called home isn't really that, it's a room in a family house where I have a desktop computer with an ADSL connection & my books, clothes, etc.What about you, are you teaching English in Tokio? (And English teachers in Japan are having a very hard time after NOVA went bankrupt, and failed to pay their 4,000 English teachers since August.)I am a systems engineer working for an American software company.I am curious what your country of origin is, as you spelled 'Tokyo' as 'Tokio', which is done so in German. Unfortunately, the trains are now in a terrible state.No need to be shy about your teaching skills, we all appreciate your very helpful advice on this Forum, especially on the more knotty technical points.Although I sometimes teach English and edit English language books, spelling has always been a weakness for me, and that's why I spelled Tokyo the way I did. So usually I have to use a spellchecker all the time, but I haven't yet downloaded the one on this Forum.Of course, I'm not really from Venus (as, for some reason, I've written in my personal details) but from Croydon in Surrey.By the way Irene and I have a couple of queries about what you wrote about the new Comodo build. Don't you have a backup that you can fall back onto? :D Registry Mechanic didn't work, and now I'm sure everything's running slower since I used it. So I'm going to undo it's "improvements". Also I don't have any Restore Points to before this annoyance started as I deleted most of them when I reduced the space available for SystRes thinking I didn't need so many of them. I do have a Restry back-up I can use, but I'm reluctant to use it as it's 2 months old.Someone will probably tell me I don't know what I'm talking about, but could it possibly be anything to do with Java enablement/installation or lack of it? Well, it might be Java, Irene, but I don't think so as nothing else is affected except 4 or 5 Windows icons that appear on the Change User Accounts menu and on the Windows Download Notification newsletter.Before using that old Registry back-up, andsome, I'm going to try Re-installing MS Windows Scripts. With a combination of andsome's suggestion to restore the registry from a back up (the most recent one I had was April this year) together with Microsoft Knowledge base the little red crosses have gone & been replaced by the correct icon. It seems the problem was a corrupt or missing .dll in the Registry. Thanks to all who encouraged me with this. The drinks are on me!!
