casey
I have an old wood framed conservatory which I am having trouble sealing the roof glazing from leaks. I have tried different tapes and glazing sealants but none seem to last longing than 6 months. Anyone know of something that would provide a permanent cure.Casey. -pops-
There was a translucent silicone sealant available for sealing glass. It was made by Dow Corning Silicones but I can't remember commercial name of it. It was obtainable in squeeze tubes and in large tubes for use in a caulking gun.The problem with a lot of sealants is that they are affected by sunlight. This stuff claimed to be resistant to UV degradation.I've had a look around the DC website but it is so big and complex, I gave up. The material I mean should be available from builders and glass merchants.
casey
Thanks for the suggestion. Had a look and found this - DOW CORNINGĀ® 1199 SILICONE GLAZING SEALANT - but it said not available in the UK.
-pops-
There certainly was something available - I've used it but, as I said, I can't remember the name - it wasn't anything fancy and may well have been something similar to the one you've found.Since I made my earlier post, I've been down the garden to check the stuff (holding the glass in my greenhouse) and it still looks OK after about 8 - 10 years.I seem to remember I bought it from my local builders merchant or it may have been B&Q.
