nate Posted November 23, 2007 Report Share Posted November 23, 2007 when i try to boot my computer it gives me the error of having a currupt hal.dll and that i need to repair it. I have one drive, and it is partitioned. right now i am on the C partition, but the I partition is what i need the files on. when i go to the recovery console on the windwos CD, it asks if i want to log on to C or I. i can type in "Dir I:\" and it will show all of the files. I did the copy G:\i386\hal.dl_ I:\windows\system32\hal.dll and it said ti worked, but i boot and the same error comes up. i have not had any luck for about two months now and its becoming very frustrating and i need some of the documents on the drive. can someone please help? wickedadmin Posted December 1, 2007 Report Share Posted December 1, 2007 Recently I was editing the boot.ini file and made a typo without noticing, when I rebooted I got the "currupt hal.dll" or "missing hal.dll" error. I had to use BartPE so I could get to the boot.ini file so I could make the correct change. Check to see if the boot.ini file is pointing to the right partition. nate Posted December 2, 2007 Author Report Share Posted December 2, 2007 as of now, i did do a re installation of windows about a week ago. but i still would like to get my files back. I tried to se if it was directing to the rihgt partititon, and considering i did not know what partition it was on, i made about 4 more replicas of the same boot.ini lines of the one that worked, but changed the partition to 1,2,3, and 4. partition 1 is the new instlalation, and before edititng, ithere was only partition 1 and 2. After adding 3 and 4, i rebooted and tried each one. 1 worked as normal, 2 recieved the hal.dll (original problem), along with 4 (i just did partition 4 just incase, but when i did the one with partition 3, it booted! but it froze at the windows boot screen. (the one with the windows splash screen? (the picture) it goes for about a second, and then the loading bar stopps and remians blank)knowing this, any hel from here?
