Dell Computers to be Sold in Stores

We had this already for a few years here; in fact many electronics stores have a Sony, Toshiba, IBM, NEC, Dell, etc. section, with tech people from these companies present. At Dell, you can talk with the Dell techies, and they help you configure your computer to exactly your needs, while simultaneously you see the price displayed when components are added or removed.

I have ordered my last few Dell computers this way, and I am very happy with this method.

One of the easiest sites to configure a computer to your own spec in the UK is PC Specialists.

Their prices seem to be very competitive.

I priced up all the components for a new Vista desktop :-

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU

ASUS Silent Knight 2 Ultra Cooler

ASUS P5K Motherboard

2 GB DDR2 800 MHz RAM

Two 400 GB SATA2 hard drives 16 MB cache 7200 rpm

Two Liteon 20 x dual layer DVD burners

NVidia GeForce 8600 GT PCI express graphics

Internal multi card reader

Case with 600W Quad Rail Quiet PSU and case fans

Windows Vista Ultimate.

Buying the components from various web suppliers totalled £883 inc delivery. I then found that PC Specialists could provide one exactly the same fully built for £790 inc VAT and delivery.

I still intend building one though - for the experience.
