i had 2 operating systems on my HD, Windows XP & Linux. As i was away, my windows crashed, so one of my friend reinstalled it on Drive C. Now there is no data left in my Drive, he said that when he installed windows it showed that C is a unformatted drive . I have some very imp data on my drive C & i need to recover it.

You could try using a data recovery program (google - there are free ones on the web) but if your mate reformatted the C: partition and did a clean install of Windows, the chances are much of your data will have been over-written and gone forever.

You would be well advised to create a completely separate partition - or better still, a second hard drive for your data - to prevent this happening again in the future. Also -if you have data that is valuable you should also back it up onto an external hard drive or DVD's using a program like Acronis.

Sorry to appear wise after the event - but we see so many similar stories here where people have lost valuable data because they do not have a back up.
