Dirt and grease under the fingernails is a no-no, it alters the taste of finger foods and if you are a woman it can draw attention away from your jewellery.
This just put me in mind of 'the olden days' - circa Fanny Craddock era, when the female TV chefs/cooks would be wearing rings and sporting long finger nails (not necessarily dirty!), when they were mixing pastry etc.

Fair makes your stomach turn thinking about it!! 7.gif

A bit of nail varnish in the pastry adds flavour and texture. :D
