AlanHo
Dirt and grease under the fingernails is a no-no, it alters the taste of finger foods and if you are a woman it can draw attention away from your jewellery.

Watchful
One of my pet hates....dirty fingernails :0 They should only be seen on a manual-working man and should be vigorously scrubbed after work.

This just put me in mind of 'the olden days' - circa Fanny Craddock era, when the female TV chefs/cooks would be wearing rings and sporting long finger nails (not necessarily dirty!), when they were mixing pastry etc.Fair makes your stomach turn thinking about it!! A bit of nail varnish in the pastry adds flavour and texture. :D
