catgate Posted February 2, 2008 Report Share Posted February 2, 2008 I picked this up on a linux forum.It seems to explain things nicely.It's operating system independent. However, there are some possible pitfalls:- It can only give a download speed boost if, currently, the connection isn't currently saturated somewhere along the line. If you're already using all the bandwidth, simultaneous downloads won't give any speed increase.- Pipelining works by effectively hammering the server in question; some admins may not be too happy with 30 simultaneous requests from each user...- If my memory serves me correctly, altering content.notify.interval will change the delay between more data being downloaded, and a page repaint. So having a small delay will cause more refreshes as data is downloaded, giving a quicker appearance, at the expense of CPU use.- Likewise browser.cache.memory.capacity - more RAM cache, more RAM usage, but potentially quicker loading for cached pages (no need to re-download). But it depends on the page cache settings.Basically, it's a case of weighing up the pros and cons, and considering the system and connection speed etc. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
