Bobby Posted February 12, 2008 Report Share Posted February 12, 2008 I installed third party disk defragmentation software and now my regular disk deframenter that comes with windows will not work i keep getting an error message. Irene Posted February 13, 2008 Report Share Posted February 13, 2008 I am not cartain, but I think you may be able to add it back by going to the Control Panel, Add & Remove Programs, then select Windows Components from the left hand side. Diskeeper will reinstate the original Windows defragger when uninstalled. A program that does not is not one to be recommended - that's why we're asking.Anyway, you may need to do a System Restore to a time before you installed that unknown defragger. They offer a free 30 days trial, and when uninstalling it, the system will return to the original Windows defragmenter.Many of the forum regulars here use Diskeeper, and I have never heard any problems about it. You were fortunate, Bobby, many so-called utilities apart from messing with Windows itself, also have embedded adware, spyware and other nasties that can be excrutiatingly difficult to remove once installed.Installing McAfee SiteAdvisor (or a similar trustworthy browser utility) will also help warn you about suspect websites, but not programmes that come on magazine CD's.
