Excel irritation

Recommended Posts

I'm using M$Excel 2003 and have this minor irritation. When I open it I used to be able to see the last 5 most recently opened files, wont do this any more. I have ticked the 5 most recent files box in Tools/Options/General tab. If I close down and then re-open Excel then the most recent file is showing but not if I open it the following day. Would this be anything to do with CrapCleaner, which I run every night?

It is indeed CCleaner.

Open CCleaner - windows tab - Windows Explorer - untick "Recent documents"

Under Advanced - tick "Old prefetch data".

Thanks for that, Alan.

I've just done the ticks and bashes. Hopefully all will be well now. :D

Nah! Just opened a few files, closed them and they were listed under the drop down file list. Ran CC and I'm back as before.
Did you just open and close them, Doug?

You would need to do a 'save' before they will appear in the list, I think.

I have just run CCleaner with the settings I stated reversed and all my recent docs have vanished from Word and Excel.

I then opened a couple of files in each and closed without saving.

Upon opening Word & Excel the files are there in recent docs.

I ran CCleaner again - and the recent docs have vanished.

I reset CCleaner as I suggested and repeated the procedure. This time the files I opened were retained in recent docs.

Doug - you must have something else causing it.

I don't have 2003 but 97 and my Word recent docs stay but the Excel recent docs are gone, I haven't changed any settings in CCleaner so it is on default, both Word and Excel have the same settings for history. No help but strange.

Thanks for all the responses, think I've cleared the problem. I had forgotten that Excel was part of Office 2003 - in my case so I cleared that box in CC, I had been hunting for a reference to Excel :paperbag1: Will see how things go now seems OK so far.
