Panarchy
Hello!I'm typing up some study notes, (I'm doing a course, which by the end of it I will achieve [hopefully] my CCNA, A+, Network+ & MCSE certifications), but as I was/am typing up my notes, I found a blank (should've been more intent on writing it down in class!).I've just spent more than 30 minutes on wikipedia and google trying to find out!So I've decided to ask on a forum (this one). Please help me out! Here is a screenshot of what I have remembered so far:Please help me fill in the blanks! Thanks in advance,PanarchyPS: If you find/have found any mistakes in any other elements in any of the tables, please inform me! Boris
Don't think much of your googling skills :)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Allocation_Tablehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFShttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_NTshould give sufficient info - if you read through and work it out for yourself ? Mike567
Win2k was NTFS and FAT32, because it was built on NT, I'm taking my A+ & N+ as well .Win 3.1 wasn't FAT32 nether DOS, win 9x was FAT 16&32.Heres a simple tip if its a server edition it WILL have NTFS!! Mike567
By the way you might want to put windows 3.x due to 3.11 was a business release where as windows 3.1 was for home users but had the same file system, I might have got them the wrong way around I think 3.11 was business one though? Panarchy
Okay, thanks. (Woot, taking same course as me :P)Here are my revised tables (tell me if I missed something!)Panarchy
Mike567
They tried taking FAT out of VISTA so all you would see it ExFAT&NTFS (i believe), you don't get the option of fat 12/16 in XP/2K.I'm not sure if fat12/16 would have been in 98/ME either.FAT is also called 12-bit FAT, the file allocation table (FAT) for a floppy disk. The location of files on a floppy disk are listed in a one-column table in the FAT. Because the width of each entry in a floppy disk column is 12 bits, the FAT is called FAT12. As a file system for floppy disks, it had a number of limitations: no support for hierarchical directories, cluster addresses were "only" 12-bits long (which made the code manipulating the FAT a bit tricky) and the disk size was stored as a 16-bit count of sectors, which limited the size to 32MB.[i]http://www.easeus.com/resource/drive/fat12.htm
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
I do not quite get why you didn't list Windows NT (3.1 and 4) together with 2000, XP, and Vista. But both NT 4 and 2000 also had server versions (Windows NT 4 Server, and Windows 2000 Server).
