OK I downloaded SP3 and lost connection

Recommended Posts

I lost my connection - my ISP said all I had to do was to retype in password and user name as could connect but got their portal.

I had done that many times trying as well as reconfigure my D Link 200. But one time I found this place - now forgot how - but it lists type server transport compression and stuff like that which checked out as must have found it before and written in my book for senior moments - and saw my server ISP address was correct but my own had changed. mentioned this to ISP tech and she said nothing - just retype etc and I was able to get connected to web instead of their Portal. Anyone know how to gt back to that - cant find how B)

Now I cant get links off of Google. FF has trouble loading page. check connections.

Did and found that instead of allow unsecured password it had changed to advanced. With most ticked. So went back to insured password and still cant get link off google.

Others on forums are saying similar.

Do I change back to how it was after SP3 or leave it as unsecured makes no difference to google tried it - did disconnect and reconnect between tries and changes.

:D

PS Adding to previous post - SP3 has taken all those patches off my computer - shorter list now. so did clean up - I apologise to M$ for doubting them .

I've also found that a few things seem to be re-set to their original Microsoft defaults after installing SP3. Best to check the main items like Security Settings, Windows components, Services etc., I suppose. SP3 tried to re-install Messenger, even though I had disabled it some time ago.

Right on Dencandy - messenger back and I too had disabled it.

Plus it changed my screen resolution first thing I noticed.

Are you having any problems with links off of Google.

I noticed as forum friend had also down the deed and he cant get anything but the forum - luckily - wanted some stuff googled so I did it for him to post on forum - and then found I couldn't get the links. Changed to Answer All and got most of them but still some sponsored ones were FF couldn't load the page.

Also I had had problems playing video on BBC UK and had fixed it with a new driver and that was again up the creek and had to reinstall the new driver to fix it. Weird eh.

Ok you can stop looking B)

I was checking everything and found a bit on Super Anti Spyware latest version I hadn't seen before.

Repair internet connections. It worked :D

Uses WinsockXP seemingly - has repair to a whole heap of stuff there too. Nifty program. Thanks for having it go to 'ansome :flowers:

Along with Winpatrol suggested by Dencandy :flowers: good combination.

:D

I dont know about running faster - I had noticed a bit of hanging of windows from programs and where they cut into each other on start ups since SP3.

I didn't have the slightest issue with any of my applications (or anything else) after SP3. All just continued like before, except - as Andsome said - a bit faster.

Same here.

Unbelievably the installation worked first time and I had forgotten to turn my a/v off (NOD32) and it still worked okay.

I have an AMD processor and so I count myself lucky as SP3 is alleged to have more problems with AMD processors for some reason

Can't say I have. Some strange things with screens not completing fully sometimes, but that could be due to the unpredictable internet connections out here. When I get time I'll check all my settings, programmes and run CheckDisk again.
