Confusing finding right Chipset update

Hi,

Im not sure i have ever found the right "Chipset Software Installation Utility" update for my ehh chipset!..on Intel's website throu the years, probably installed wrong driver, therefore this OS restart i have choosed to stick to the installation CD, even thou its 2005-outdated, but need to be 100% im choosing right first

The driver-CD followed the computer says this before install-start

Target Chipset#: Intel® 945G

Starting "Chipset Indentification Utility" however says its Intel® 955 Chipset

well perhaps the number 45 is just a coincedence thath looks like its not fitting in to the "55" family, im not skilled enough to argue, so i follow the direct-link the same program provide to Intel driver download

Choosing Nr:1 alternative at

This launch "Intel Chipset Device Software" rather than "Chipset Software Installation Utility" (perhaps it means the same thou, i have no clue:))

comparing with my CD the steps before installation-start, this one instead says its for

"Target Chipset#: X38 & 3200/3210 Chipset"

ok why not mention "945G"?

and moore, under it, "July 26 2007", going back to Intel download page again and latest update suggest "9/24/2007"

Is this really right?

I kind of know what chipset i have, atleast the basic-name, its moore like i didnt find right driver on Intels website event thou i follow the link

the Intel ID-utility gives out, cause i got install errors previosly for some reason, but now i have find right again..cause it didnt complain when installing obviolsy

PC-wizard did show same info as Intels own ID-tool

thath its a "Intel i955X" i still dont see in any analyse-tool the value of "945d" thath the CD-drivers installs for

but i guess it could have been comersial for other chipset thath works with it allso..i guess, so probalby "Intel i955X" is all i need to focus on

Kloppstock, you are not the only to find the Intel driver update site almost totally useless. Many times over the years I have tried to locate and identify the right driver update for different items of their hardware. I must have spent hours on it & I think I succeeded once. Others I know have had the same experience, unless it's absolutely the most recent product from them.

Companys like Driver Detective make a good profit from doing the job for you, but each organisation (including Intel themselves) have their own unique way of describing and numbering the different items.

Now I just leave it to Microsoft update, they seem to tell me about all the important driver updates. :)

I actually never had a problem finding Intel drivers from http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx

The important thing is that you know exactly what Intel devices you have on your system. If not, you can run the Identify Your Product tools to find out what you have on your system.
