He asks me for advice, but I have not the slightest idea what Windows Live Mail is.Is it a new mail client? http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview really gives very little information. Boris Posted June 19, 2008 Report Share Posted June 19, 2008 As I understand it, up to the end of June 2008 you could use Outlook Express to download your Hotmail mail as if it was POP. Microsoft are now changing the protocols behind Hotmail from WebDAV to something else so this will no longer be possible as from 1 July.The replacement Windows Live Mail supposedly gives you the ability to download your Hotmail in the same way as OE did.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Live_Mail Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Dencandy Posted June 19, 2008 Report Share Posted June 19, 2008 I've been using it for about a month, Pat Willener, as a replacement for Outlook Express. It's faster than OE, but in some ways not as user-friendly, I thought. After it's installed it will transfer all the settings, files, address book, etc from OE to Windows Live. Dencandy Posted June 20, 2008 Report Share Posted June 20, 2008 The Live Mail contacts list of addresses etc is fully accessible off-line, so I assume it's on the HD. But the old Windows Address Book seems to be as it was prior to installing Live Mail. But I seem to remember there's a way to update Windows Address Book with the Live Mail Contacts list. Dencandy Posted June 20, 2008 Report Share Posted June 20, 2008 Pat Willener, Windows Live Mail has import & export facilities for using with other lists of contacts, address books, etc so if your friend can only find the list he lost, he should be able to restore it. He'll need to browse through the Help pages to find out how to do it though. There's also a useful Live Mail Help Page (https://support.live.com/eform.aspx?product...rmts&scrx=1). Piece of *something not good*.
