Redirection = Virus?

In IE, Firefox and the file explorer, I'm returned to the first page whatever the new page chosen and whatever the means, link, address direct, shortcut etc. Impossible to use the machine. Spybot and Avast up to date. Any ideas?

What about an AV program and firewall? Run an on line scan here.

Is the page you are always returned to the same one each time? Or do you mean the first page you went to when you began surfing?

Which version of IE are you using? If it's IE7 click on the little house (top right) & it will tell you all your home pages & let you change them if you want to.

Also there's ways of fixing your home page in concrete - using SpyWare Blaster, for example: (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html. But first you need to sort out the problem following andsome's advice.

If you've scanned for viruses & malware and found nothing, then I suggest you next try a restore to a time before this problem started. You need to use System Restore to do this. You get it from All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System Restore. Select Restore My Computer To An Earlier Time, then, on the calendar, select a date before the problem started.

If that makes Windows Explorer work, I suggest you then download and install IE7 and the latest version of Firefox (just released).

If all that goes OK I suggest you also download a free programme called SpyWare Blaster used by many people on this forum. You get it from: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html & when you've installed it and got it running, go to its Tools page and use it to set your IE home pages, etc so no one except you can change them. Keep SpyWare Blaster updated each week as it will help prevent the installation of Ad & Spyware.
