One of my hard drives is 500GB and the other one is 120GB. The 500GB was seen as 'disk 0' and the 120GB was seen as Disk 0. How can that be?Shouldn't one be Disk 0 and the other, Disk 1, normally?Does anyone know what's going on when that happens and how to fix it? How can that be?Shouldn't one be Disk 0 and the other, Disk 1, normally?Does anyone know what's going on when that happens and how to fix it?Disk 0 should have been assigned the Drive letter C (System Disk)Disk 1 should have been assigned the Drive Letter DAfter you Format drive 0 it should automatically have assigned the drive as C.I take it you have installed the jumpers on both drives the right way and already installed and formatted the drives. Admin Posted June 25, 2008 Author Report Share Posted June 25, 2008 Oh, sorry, I should have included more info. They're both SATA drives. Do you need to know the cabling connection? I'd have to check the BIOS (I'm typing this at another location on another computer).If it helps, the mobo is a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R ver. 2.1. The SATA configuration is something like: (I think) the boot drive is channel 0, Master. DVD Burner is at channel 0, slave and the other HDD is at channel 1, Slave. I am not sure, though. I'll check my BIOS to confirm. I don't know if the configuration would influence the 'Disk 0 assignments' or not. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Should they be on the same channel?Anyway, one drive (Samsung 500GB) is on:IDE Channel 0 MasterOther drive (Seagate 120GB) is on:IDE Channel 1 MasterThe DVD burner is on: IDE Channel 0 Slave. (Note, these are SATA drives - all of them including the DVD Burner). How should I connect these drives? Should I modify the connections? They are single bus, unlike PATA, which can accept 2 devices on one bus.Well, then I am EXTREMELY confused because as I listed above, my BIOS configuration has 'SLAVE' with the DVD burner and it's a SATA burner. I will revisit this one when I actually set up my new OS drive, though. I think I will want SATAII Channel 0 or whatever the first port is for my new OS boot drive.But, I want to install XP SP2 first and I just discovered I need something to install AHCI if I want to use the actual SATA controller (NOT IDE emulation).How do I do this? I will ask in a new post since it's a different topic. Then I will ask how to connect my drives. I think I can just swap out the one that's in there now as it is 120GB older generation and my new one is current gen. and 320GB (I want to multi-boot).If you know of how to connect on a Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3R using the Intel ICH9R SATA Controller, please inform. I want to know which port to use for at least 2 drives, one to be used for the primary or boot/OS drive and one for a data storage drive. I think I want OS disk drive in SATAII0 and the storage drive in SATAII1 (which is immediately below SATAII0). Both of these are via the ICH9R controller. Does this sound right so far?
