I have a friend who has XP and the comp keeps shutting down and restarting for no apparent reason.... I'm having a trawl through the knowledge base but can't find anything yet.... has anyone come across this before???? (ps... I have them doing a scan for the blaster worm but it isn't rebooting every few minutes so I don't think it's that.

what was that chkdisk repair thingy that you type in 'run'

To ensure that there are no corrupted files in XP, put in the system disc, and then stop it from auto running. Go to START/RUN and type sfc /scannow, then click OK. this will run and replace any corrupted files which may be causing a problem. YOU MUST LEAVE A SPACE between sfc and /

Thanks andsome, already did that. :)

The fault seemed to have something to do with explorer because thats where all the error messages in the error log seemed to be pointing.

Anyway.... uninstalled explorer and then reinstalled it and things seem ok so far.
