So if you don't have kids or your kids are too old to qualify for child benefit then you freeze to death :vibrate:

I suppose he's trying to do the right thing but if the government go ahead with a windfall tax on the utility companies (to pay for it), then the chances are that they will raise their energy prices to compensate so we will all lose out not to mention further fuelling inflation

Comments from the times link:

MPs & Civil Servants on £60k + with children will be getting the £150 fuel allowance along with their other perks. While single tax payers, couples with no children & pensioners again will not receive anything. I do hope Mr Brown and friends spend their allowance wisely

Steve Toplis, Long Eaton, UK

Have they sorted out why foreigners can claim child benefit even though the kids don't live in the UK? Presumably they will also benefit from this!

L.Mead, London, UK

If the above comments are true then it's disgusting

Everything that this lot touch becomes a bigger and bigger mess. When they supposedly solved the 10p income tax debacle, the very poorest were still worse off. I read that El Gordo sees this as part of the means of kick starting the housing market. The idiot lives in cloud cuckoo land. :censored:

The government has even managed to mess this up as the leak about a stamp duty freeze has hit sales as 1 in 4 transactions are being put on hold!

The alleged inside story is that the leak was engineered by the Brownies to devalue the Badger so that Cyclops could "promote" Millipede to Chancellor in the September reshuffle thereby neutralising his challenge for PMship. But it all sound so terribly tortuous and unlikely that it just might be true. It has the stamp of incompetence normally associated with the Brownies.
