catgate Posted August 19, 2008 Report Share Posted August 19, 2008 Innocent people have to be protected from these thugs whether we like the cameras or not.I have not yet heard of a single case where a CCTV camera has jumped down off it's mounting to protect an individual from a thug, or anything else for that matter.The best that they can do is allow identification of individuals so that the authorities can then "prosecute" them, if they so chose, and "punish" them, if the Human Rights/DoGooders/&Co will allow. The punishment at worst will be a couple of weeks in some holiday camp, with pay, as things are at present. The real purpose of the CCTV cameras is their use as a theoretical cheap way to "control", by causing fear (of retribution), but until a sensible system of meaningful punishment, which really does case fear and can not be worn as a badge of distinction, is introduced, the hooligans and thugs will continue to "play to the camera". I trust that they are not in individual cubicles A metal detector at the entrance may be more appropriate for concealed weapons.And, as catgate says, more sensible sentences for offenders would be a better deterrent.
