I didn't know this, so I thought that I would pass it on for anyone else who is unaware. :D

Before committing to buy a new (used) car, it's possible to check not only the MOT status, but also the MOT history.

The website is www.motinfo.gov.uk.

You need the following...

  • the registration number of the vehicle and
  • either the test number from the new style MOT test certificate
  • or the document reference number from the V5C registration certificate

I did, but then I see the back of the certificates 6/7 times daily when printing MOT certificates as an MOT tester :D

:flowers: for you Irene, for actually reading the back, there is also information on what to do if you think the vehicle shouldn't have passed it's MOT when it was tested.
