Resolved - Can't access pictures on PC

Friend has a laptop with Vista Home Premium installed. At the time of purchase she also purchased a USB card reader - both from PC world. Recently she installed the card reader - Dazzle HI speed All in 1. I went round and did the install and uploaded her recent holiday pictures and using PSP 8 enhanced a couple of pictures. All the pictures were saved as .JPG files. She is having problems so I popped round on Saturday and sure enough she is having problems. Opening up the picture file - saved as a separate file on the desktop and they are all there and can be viewed as a slide show. But we cannot do anything more with them. She also reports that pictures that I had copied over from her old PC are showing the same problem. I thought I'd copy the files over to new files and then re-install the card reader but get the following messages ;

Cannot access the specified device, path or file.

You may not have permission to access this file,

You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy this folder!

I am totally ignorant when it comes to Vista so help please. When she got the PC we did the software install and did not create a separate administrator account. This has been dragging on for a while, holidays and other things keep getting in the way. So a very serious plea for help please.

From what you describe it appears, to my old fashioned outlook, as though you have got a file ownership problem. I know less than nothing about XP and even less about Vista, but what you describe has similarities with occurrences I have had with Linux and "permissions".

My inclination would be to explore administrator privileges etc. if any there be.

Finally sorted the problem tonight, Described the problem to my local friendly PC shop and was advised that it sounded like a software problem - probably on the install disk that came with the reader. The reader itself, being USB, should be able to be used by itself. Bingo deleted the software , there were several items and on removing the last one all is now OK. Thanks for all the advice.
