How to Combine Two Partitions.

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the Windows Forum.

Before you merge the partitions, make sure the 2nd partition is not a recovery partition.

I use Partition Magic for such operations, which is not free. But I am sure that Google or other forum members know some free partition editors that can merge partitions.

Unfortunately the Windows Management console can only create or delete partitions, not merge.

These might seem a stupid question, but if a partition is deleted between 2 compartments, won't they merge?

It would make sense, but the Windows Disk Management is limited to:

  • Create a new partition or logical drive.
  • Format a basic volume.
  • Delete a partition or logical drive.

More here

The command line version - Diskpart - is also limited to all the above, but it can also extend a partition into free space. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300415/

Of course you will achieve something similar with this technique, with the small difference that all data from the 2nd partition is lost.

Anyway, since the original poster seems to have lost interest in the subject, there is no big point of continuing this thread.
