lafleur1977
Hi,I have virgin media - connected with a fiber cable to a modem to PC - works ok.I have bought a belkin wireless router, connected that to the modem, then from the router to the pc, it connects but doesnt get the internet.Log into the router and the internet status is connected. I have set it to dynamic, with no host name. Any idea???Really confused. Thanks
Scarecrow Man
First, verify the modem works connected directly to the PC. Then, plug the modem into the WAN port on the router. If this does not work, you can try resetting the router. There is usually a small reset button on the back or bottom.

I have tried resetting it and it started bypassing the router. When I selected dynamic, it then asked me for a host name, i was sure what to put, something from virgin maybe, could that be the problem? Thanks. Scarecrow Man
Yes. It may also be labeled as modem. It's often separate from the LAN ports. As for the host name portion, this is only if the ISP (Virgin) requires it. I'm not sure if they require this or not. Dynamic is if your ISP (Virgin) provides you with an IP address automatically. This is normal for a cable provider, but a DSL provider might require PPPOE which requires a user and password.

I left the host name blank, virgin told me to leave it blank and the said dynamic. So any other ideas? Thanks

mark2
Have you:Powered everything off at the mains ? reboot all in order, Modem, router then PC.The modem has to be fully powered off from the mains before it will release the mac address of the PC, then on reboot it will pick up the mac address of the router.
