chrissai
Guys 'n' Gals,A month or so ago I tried to plug my Usb pen into my PC (XP SP2) to download some photos. The USB pen said it was being charged but the PC seems to have no inkling that it's connected. I can't force it to pick it up when it can't see anything there at all. I've not been able to connect it to the PC since. Can anyone suggest what might (not) be happening?
Irene
Hello chrissai :D Have you tried it in any other PC's?I just came across the following suggestion in a search...Here’s what I suggest you do:Open up Device Manager and expand the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" group. Right-click on every device listed under this group and choose ‘Uninstall’. Unplug EVERY USB device. This step is crucial! (That's why it's useful to have a PS/2 ,mouse lying around.) Reboot the PC. All your USB controllers will be recognized and reinstalled. Ensure that your Windows Updates are all current and that any USB related ‘patches’ available for your motherboard and/or system are installed. Plug in your ‘problem’ USB device and see if it works. That procedure should correct any USB device recognition problems you might experience. If you have problems with any particular device after following those instructions uninstall it, reboot and reinstall it afterwards.Quote taken from HERE. AlanHo
When you last used the USB pen successfully did you remove it from the computer without first clicking on the task bar icon "Safely remove hardware".Pen drives do not like hot disconnection and can easily be damaged. Most usual problem is that you'll lose some files because you disconnected it too soon.e.g. Whilst transfering the files.
