artist
I don't use my laptop a lot - mainly to play with graphics - but I do keep everything updated. The was a bubble from the task bar telling me that I don't have enough virtual memory and that it would make more - or something similar - the bubble burst before I had a chance to read it properly. How would I increase it myself, if poss?Who defines how much virtual memory there is? Alan2273
If you are using Xp artist, follow these instructions.http://www.delete-computer-history.com/inc...ual-memory.html
artist
It was on 374 - I increased it to 500. I've got 512 memory on this computer is that enough? I don't really understand what I'm doing............I launched PSP which has been very slow to come up and it only seems marginally faster. Dencandy
artist, I think 512 MB of RAM is barely enough for running fully updated XP, but buying extra memory for a laptap isn't straighforward due to the miniaturization, so you'd need to consult the manual and/or manufacturer.By default Windows sets Page File to minimum: 1.5 times , maximum: 3 times. But this may have been altered. If you go to System > Advanced > Performance Settings > Advanced > Performance Options > Change, you can re-set everything to default sizes appropriate for the amount of RAM & HD size. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Do you have enough free disk space? If so, I would increase your virtual memory (page file) size. I would recommend an initial size of 1024MB, and perhaps a maximum of 2048MB.P.S. it is better - in my view - to use "round" numbers such as 512, 1024, or 2048, instead of "strange" numbers like 500 or 750. <- these numbers cause pain to computers B)

There should be plenty of disc space - PSP is only 220MB and apart from that there is only AVG, AdAware etc. I don't even keep loads of photos on the laptop but use them from a disc as and when. Thanks for all the suggestions.
