AlanHo Posted December 30, 2008 Report Share Posted December 30, 2008 Can one of our penguin fans recommend suitable low cost software for backing up a Linux Netbook computer to an external hard drive or perhaps a USB memory stick.The netbook computer has an 8 GB solid state hard drive and its OS is Linpus Linux Lite v 1.0.7.E I use Acronis on my Vista Desktop and Vista laptop to create disc images but at present lack an emergency backup for the new netbook because my version of Acronis will not run on Linux. I have an Acer recovery DVD but if I use this I will lose my data, other software I have loaded and settings I have added to the hard drive.I have already googled and found a number of so-called software solutions but most run on Windows and claim that a Linux partition can be backed up. Alan2273 Posted December 30, 2008 Report Share Posted December 30, 2008 Alan I have a 4gb EEEpc running Xandros and I use a SD card to back up to, but I do it manually.I have not had any dealings with Linpus Lite, but I will have a poke around and see if I can find anything. However it is a command line utility. It's probably installed by default, but if not you can probably install it by running the command:yum install rsync (I'm sure there's a graphical way to install stuff in Linpus as well)There are of course tons of graphical utilities, but I don't know enough about Linpus to tell you how to install them. Linpus in based on Fedora 8 so in theory you should be able to install almost anything, but I don't know enough about it.Also have a look at clonzilla which will backup anything and can run of a live CD/USB/PXE.
