CNN's Deceptive Use of Streaming Video

Here's a story with worrying security implications for those who watch streaming video. It comes from Windows Secrets' Brian Livingston. It appears that anyone who watched the Inauguration of President Obama on CNN's live video service may have unknowingly agreed to allow CNN to use their computer to feed the video to other users by using a Peer-to-peer link that they were not clearly told about. You can read the full account ON THIS LINK.

If big companies like CNN are involved in back-door deceptions like this, some of the smaller players are probably doing even worse things.

The UK "on demand" television services also have a provision in your agreement with them to allow the use of your computer for feeding a P2P service. This is not secret but it is not made very obvious and I'm certain a lot of people who have signed up do not realise their machine is being used as a slave for the TV company.
