HydroDan Posted February 20, 2009 Report Share Posted February 20, 2009 Well, this is my first time posting on this forum, so I'll try to waste as little of your time as possible. I have a HP Pavilion dv1000 laptop which originally came with Windows XP installed. About a year ago I decided to switch to Ubuntu. Lately I have been finding I regret this choice and I miss XP. My laptop did not come with any system backup discs though so I don't know what I need to do to reinstall windows on this laptop. I would prefer any options that don't involve buying a new copy of XP, as money is a little tight right now. Thanks in advance for any help. Dencandy Posted February 21, 2009 Report Share Posted February 21, 2009 If anyone else you know has a disc, copy it and use the copy, or borrow the original?HydroDan, if you do that you will be unable to get updates, service packs, etc. & the person who lends you the disk will probably be breaking their EULA & may also compromise their ability to get updates, etc. When you installed Ubuntu did you wipe the entire hard disk or install it on a separate partition, or what did you do? HP laptops often have a partition on the hard disk containing all the original software including the Windows OS. How many partitions do see when you open My Computer?Also consult the pamphlets that came with the laptop for a document about re-installing the OS.
