Downloadtube.com Blog Exclusive: If you will make a Google search based on the keyword Hotmail, the first entry of the search engine result page present a short description of the Microsoft Hotmail Service:”Free web-based e-mail. 2MB e-mail storage, signatures, stationery, HTML compatible.” This short description of the service is not compliant with the current state of Hotmail. Practically, now Hotmail service offers up to 5 GB space for email storage, with the possibility to increase it automatically and POP3 access worldwide.

It suits me fine as it is. I use it for registering products and services where I want to keep my Outlook Express account quiet, and uncluttered. Storage does not bother me, when I have read them I delete them. :D

The storage and Hotmail service is OK. In the article is shown the fact that even the service gets periodic updates, the description of HTML page is not updated to reflect the latest changes of the service. In the same time GMail also offers more than 5GB storage space, as well as POP3 support for many other email services like Yahoo, Hotmail and more.

So this POP3 service, is it possible to use alongside Thunderbird at last, or will Windows keep up feeding their greed and demanding money for such a service?

This is to this day, the only interest I will have to continuing usage of my Hotmail inbox.

The free version of Hotmail works with IE, Safari & Firefox. Don't know about other browsers. There's a more advanced paid for version, but I've used the free service for about 3 years after problems with Yahoo, and I've had little to complain about. It's a free lunch as far as I'm concerned and I'm grateful for it.
