Alan2273
First you cannot run CHKDSK /F, as you need Windows installed to use that. What are the specifications and how old is the computer.
Seshomaru Samma
1) You can check disc with a Linux cd , here is how (you can use a LiveCd so you don't actually need to install)2) If you need Sata drivers to install XP, you will have to slipstream them into your install media, you can use a programme like nlite 3. can you provide more information about the error - at what stage does it appear ? does it happen with the new HD you bought? what are your specs?4. another possibility is a faulty install media - can the disc work on other setup? Seshomaru Samma
xenon,as i explained in my previous post you can use your Linux partition to check the disc , the link i provided explains how to do it, the commands will be similar in your Suse OS.the reason you can't install XP most likely has to do with Sata drivers which the default XP media does not have (but most Linux distros do). slipstream it with nlite and you should be good to go (but the check the disc for errors and badblocks first)

Seshomaru Samma
In my first post there is a link that explains how to CHKDSK in Ubuntuthe important question which you didnt answer is - does the installation actually begin?does windows recognise your disc?the 1st part of the installtion windows parts your disc and formats it - do you get to that part? if so it means that you do not need to slipstream SATA drivers, it means that you have another problem - probably a corrupt install media (your CD), a problem with your drive, or something else. can you post the output of lspci from your ubuntu partition? (applications>accessories>terminal)
