Cannot Uninstall

My Spybot spyware got corrupted. Everytime I try to open it, a nasty virus tries to enter with it.

How can I uninstall it so I can install a new Spybot? I tried contacting safer-networking.org its maker

but it's always off-line in my pc.

By the way, my user name that appears on WF is 'picaso' and not the registered 'picasso'.

Isn't this unsafe?

What program is telling you that the Spybot download is corrupted ? This sounds like it may be a false positive rather than actual malware. What AntiVirus have you got installed ?

How can I uninstall it

Try Revo Uninstaller

You could try one of the alternatives like Malwarebytes or SpywareTerminator to double check.

I can't comment on the single or double s in your name, that would need a mods input, but I suspect it's more likely to be a typo on your part.

Some people have this same problem reported at DSLreports.com forum.

Maybe that could clarify better than me. Thanks Belatu.

The best reply I can give you is Google search: safer-networking.org down.

Thanks again Boris.

Well if that's the case I think we've got about as far as we're going to get, our questions are simple ones that really need the PC owner to answer them. Suggesting we google another forum isn't particularly constructive and would require far more interest in the matter than I can muster.

Regarding Spybot S&D uninstall: does it have an entry in Add/Remove Programs? Can't you remove it from there?

If not, for whatever reason, try the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility; this should get rid of anything that cannot be uninstalled the normal way.

As for your forum user name; post it in the Forum Related Issues section, or send me a PM; I can change your user name and/or forum display name.

You should be able to uninstall it from Control Panel > Add/Remove programs.

You're right Pat, I can't uninstall Spybot the normal way so I'll try WICU.

I'll try to send you a PM too. Thanks a lot Pat!

'Picasso' reported (via PM) that "NortonSafe" warned him that the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility was not trustworthy. How about that?

I personally think that anything Norton or Symantec is highly untrustworthy, so I would just ignore that "advice".

However, as I have posted earlier, there is an alternative uninstall method for Spybot Search & Destroy; that is via Start | Programs | Spybot - Search & Destroy | Uninstall Spybot-S&D.

That's doesn't surprise me, coming from Norton. A company that deliberately and unneccessarily makes their product extremely difficult to remove, definitely is NOT to be trusted. And as for warning that a standard Windows product that has been around for years is untrustworthy... Unless, of course, the Windows product has been infected by real malware...
