I now find that IE 8 is so fast that it is almost instantaneous, much faster than FF. I also had a problem with my log on cookies being deleted. Just go to Tools/Internet options/Security and allow the sites that you want to save, then do the same in Privacy. If you use C Cleaner, untick index.dat files in Windows. Ditto with similar utilities like Spybot? Well, I'd only go for that if I was sure that IE8 was so secure that a blocked sites list was no longer necessary. And if it really is that secure, why don't Microsoft make this fix as default?Personally I'd like to see some more research & testing before I try the fix. Recently, when visiting 'The other place', for a few seconds a blue border is present at both sides of the opening page. I can highly recommend the fix. :DOne of the points I was making is that the fix referred to in the link appears to work because it "removes all Internet Explorer restricted sites, enhanced security zones and trusted sites" to quote from the link, so the utilities in red above can no longer be protecting the system in real time (but Spybot can still be used to scan). AlanHo Posted April 17, 2009 Report Share Posted April 17, 2009 I have run my XP and Vista Desktop computers with just AVG Free and Windows Defender for anti malware and have never had a single infection despite occasionally visiting some "dodgy" sites. I connect to the internet via a wireless router which has a hardware firewall which probably helps. I have never felt the need for all these "extra" anti malware programs - I think it is rather OTT and simply adds load to the computer for questionable benefit.
